COOKIES

Purpose

The primary objective of this policy is to provide general guidance on issues relating to the use of cookies on the onlineLaw website.

What are cookies and why do we use them?

Cookies are small text files that are stored by the browser on the computer, tablet, mobile phone and generally on the device with which one browses the www.onlinelaw.gr website. Each cookie contains information such as the name of the Website from which it came, its "lifetime" (i.e. how long it will remain on the device), and a value, which is usually a number. A cookie may remain on the device for up to one (1) year. Cookies are unique to each web browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, etc.) and contain anonymous information, which relates to the websites visited by the user and the devices used. They also allow websites to store the visitor's preferences (e.g. login details -login, language, etc.). The law states that we can store cookies on the user's device if they are strictly necessary for the operation of the website. For all other types of cookies we need the user's permission, in fact the user's consent is necessary. The individual user - visitor - subscriber can change or remove their consent at any time via the Cookies Statement on our website. In paragraph 5 of article 4 of the article 4 of Law no. 3471/2006, as amended by Law 3471/2006. 4070/2012, stipulates that the installation of cookies is only permitted if the subscriber or user has given his/her consent after being clearly and comprehensively informed.

This system is known as "opt-in", as opposed to the "opt-out" system in force before the amendment of Directive 2002/58/EC, which allowed the installation of cookies without the consent of the subscriber or user, provided that the latter has been informed beforehand and has not objected to the processing. Therefore, in accordance with the above, the provider of an internet service (e.g. an online shop) or a third party (e.g. an advertising network promoting its products through the website of an online shop) may only install a cookie if it has obtained the consent of the subscriber or user after having informed the subscriber or user appropriately beforehand.

The use of cookies makes it easier for the Website to remember information about the user's visit, collecting useful data about the search preferences already made on previous visits to the Website. Thus, the search experience will be improved the next time the user visits the site again. In addition, cookies help to control the performance and traffic of the Website, improving its presentation and content according to the preferences of its visitors.

OnlineLaw website cookies

Necessary Cookies

Cookies in this category are necessary for the correct and efficient operation of the website. They store information to maintain the user's session after the user logs in to the Authority's online services via the PP and the visitor/user's preferences regarding the use of optional cookies. The visitor/user's consent is not required for the use of mandatory cookies.

Statistics Cookies

These are cookies that help us understand how visitors interact with the website. The data collected is processed and stored anonymously. This case of "cookies" also does not fall under the exception of par. 5 of article 4 of Law No. 4. 3471/2006, even when it relates exclusively to the statistical analysis of traffic on a website. It should be noted that the European Data Protection Board (EDPS) recognises the specificity of this type of cookie and the low privacy risks when first-party cookies are installed by the website itself, rather than using third-party cookies. In this case, it is sufficient to give the possibility to withdraw consent ("opt-out"). For example, the use of third party cookies such as Google Analytics for the purpose of statistical analysis (web analytics) can only be done with the consent of the website users.

When Use of Cookies is Not Desirable
